Groundwork helps mission-driven organizations be more effective. This means working on both the organizational level through strategic planning, organizational development, team-building, recruitment, leadership challenges, and structures, as well as helping individual leaders develop impactful teams, create lasting organizational change, and find satisfaction in their careers.
Founded in September 2016 in the face of the United States’ increasing tilt toward authoritarianism and the rising climate crisis facing our world, Groundwork is about developing and supporting change-making organizations and their leaders.
Today, Groundwork focuses on four main services:
- Strategic consulting for mission-driven organizations;
- Leadership development for change-makers;
- Recruiting consulting for mission-based organizations;
- Retreat facilitation.
About
Groundwork was founded by Rainey Reitman in September 2016. Reitman is a writer, advocate, feminist, and management consultant.
In addition to her work at Groundwork, Reitman co-founded two nonprofit organizations: the Freedom of the Press Foundation and the Chelsea Manning Support Network. In different ways, both organizations are dedicated to empowering whistleblowers, supporting the future of journalism, and defending free expression online.
In addition, she served as Activism Director and later Chief Program Officer of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the world’s leading civil liberties organization working at the intersection of law and new technology. She is also a board member for the Filecoin Foundation for the Decentralized Web, which is advancing decentralized storage to ensure the permanent preservation of humanity’s most important information.
Reitman is an avid runner and long distance backpacker, and you can find her on Twitter.
